Clapham Common Policing News – March 2016

This is the Abbeville Road and Clapham Common Ward Policing News Update for March 2016. To keep up-to-date with the latest news and developments you can also follow us on Twitter @MPSClaphamCom and Facebook.

We kicked off the month with a day of excellent joint-working with Lambeth College on Clapham Common South Side. We were joined by some of the Met’s dog handlers and in addition to providing a visible presence to students and staff across the site, we were also able to tackle some of the issues raised by the student body. We look forward to building even stronger links with the College moving forward.

PC Brown and I have also spent a lot of time on the Notre Dame Estate and with the addition of CCTV on the Estate we have noticed a reduction in drug dealing activity. While out on patrol both I and other officers have received extremely positive feedback on the impact of the CCTV on anti-social behaviour and drug dealing.

We have also continued our fight against the possession and supply of drugs across the Ward, with one warrant resulting in the arrest of four individuals in relation to crystal meth. Thankfully it wasn’t on the scale of Breaking Bad!

Other drugs warrants took us to the Oaklands Estate resulting in a quantity of drugs and cash being seized:

We also conducted patrols and work on the Oaklands Estate in March, helping to prevent crime and anti-social behaviour. We are also pleased to report that following the eviction of one particularly troublesome resident, there has been no recurrence of certain issues.

I also received news that two offenders I stopped, searched and arrested last year were convicted of handling stolen goods and received custodial sentences of 9 months each, with one of the males also facing a further sentence in relation to other matters.

We have also been keeping the pressure up on thieves as we’ve noted a few new faces seeking to commit offences in the area. We’ll hopefully be able to provide further updates on this in April.

We hope that this update demonstrates our commitment to tackling crime, illegal drugs and anti-social behaviour wherever it exists in the Abbeville Road area and Clapham Common Ward. We regularly patrol stairwells, communal areas and open spaces. We appreciate the continued support of our residents and would ask any information regarding crime be provided in the usual fashion and by Crimestoppers if you prefer to do so anonymously (0800 555 111).
